The pocket square, that accessory that significantly distinguishes the person who uses it as a person who cares about details. We must know how to differentiate between the different types and ways of placing them in the pocket of the jacket and to do this in this post we will give you some simple tips to make the right choices.

MOST USED TYPES OF SUIT HANDKERCHIEFS

I like to differentiate between three types of suit scarves, there are many more, but among the most used we can easily distinguish between these three:

  • White handkerchief: The most common ones can be made of cotton, linen or silk, although white handkerchiefs made of the latter material are currently out of use.
  • Printed silk scarf: Nowadays the design of the scarf can be almost any motif we can imagine. The most common are prints of amoebas, polka dots or geometric figures.
  • Wool or cotton and wool scarf: As with silk scarves, the variety available in the designs is extensive so we can choose practically to our liking.

Obviously there are more types and materials of scarves but, with these three, I practically cover my needs in terms of this distinguished accessory.

HOW TO PLACE A POCKET HANDKERCHIEF?

You usually ask me what is the best way to place the pocket square. Well, in this post I am going to show you four different ways.

With the white suit scarf, my favorite, I like to use a couple of placement methods:

  • The simplest is to fold it straight so that a centimeter protrudes from the inside of the pocket. It is the most discreet way to wear it and is ideal to wear with a morning suit or suit to a formal event.
  • The other is a very daring way of wearing it, we could say that it is also very personal, perhaps it is not very orthodox, but I love allowing myself the license to use it. It involves folding the handkerchief so that it looks like a narrow strip. We insert it with the intention that the peaks of the handkerchief protrude quite a bit from the pocket.

HOW TO PLACE A PRINTED SCARF ON AMERICAN?

For printed scarves I don't like to use either of the two previous options. For this type of scarves I like to use another of the traditional shapes:

  • The simplest is to put your hand into the extended handkerchief and pick it up. We insert the peaks of the handkerchief into the pocket and leaving the puffed part of the handkerchief outside. Why don't I do it the other way around like in the second option with the white scarf? Very simple, by leaving the peaks out, when the scarf is made of silk or light fabrics, they fall in an unaesthetic way that I don't like.
  • The variant to this classic placement is to copy the previous one but leaving some peaks out, yes, in a very discreet way. This option is ideal for scarves on both sides or with very colorful drawings.

HOW TO STORE SUIT HANDKERCHIEFS?

Suit scarves require a lot of care, especially if they are made of fabrics such as silk. Therefore, storage is essential to ensure its durability. I leave you some ideas to store your tissues and keep them like new.

  • Store your tissues in a wooden box. This is the most elegant option, but also the one that will take up the most space. If you have the space, the wooden jewelry box style is perfect for storing tissues. In addition to allowing you to organize them by colors, prints or fabrics, you can keep them correctly folded and they will end up absorbing the smell of wood.
  • Storage in jackets. There are many men who prefer to avoid taking up space by storing their scarves in their jackets. It presents a plus in terms of space, but it is also an option for those who cannot waste time ironing and folding the pocket square every time they need it. In addition, this option is highly recommended to store your tissues during trips.
  • Sock drawer. Finally, the most basic option. If you have enough space in your sock drawer, you can store your pocket squares there. You will only have to iron them previously and fold them in the same way as when you are going to use them. This way, you won't see folds in places that don't belong, nor will you have to iron them every time you go to put them on.

I hope you have taken note and that these tips have been useful to you. If you allow me to give you some more, I would like to tell you that you never choose a scarf the same as your tie, nor combine it excessively, neither in fabrics nor in colors. It is much better that they fit well than that they are the same. Choose the scarf last, remember that it should be the seal that completes a look, not the base on which to build it. Finally, avoid silk scarves for the office, as well as the more striking ways of wearing them.

Thank you, once again, for taking your time to read me. Until next time friends.
